Staff Accountant

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Full time

Marine Acoustics, Inc. (MAI) is an employee owned scientific research and engineering company providing a diverse set of government and corporate clients with a broad spectrum of consulting and engineering services.  Our areas of expertise include services assisting clients in meeting environmental compliance requirements and in the development of naval undersea warfare systems.

MAI is seeking a Staff Accountant who will become part of a progressive, ambitious business with excellent benefits.  This position is an integral part of the company’s Finance and Human Resource Departments, reporting directly to the Company’s Chief Financial Officer. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but not limited to)

  • Cost accounting to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, government reporting, timekeeping/payroll, and payroll taxes.
  • Will perform assigned accounting functions by utilizing accounting theory and practices in order to accurately record company financial transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure financial records are in compliance with internal process documentation, generally accepted accounting principles, corporate accounting policies/control standards and applicable federal contracting regulations.
  • Prepare and record company financial transactions, preparing supplemental schedules as required.
  • Interface with management and company personnel, as required, regarding the status of accounting transactions and corrective actions required.
  • Assist and obtain information for financial audits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or
  • 3 to 5 years’ work experience in related position
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data. PC Proficiency required in Microsoft office products with a strong emphasis on Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and work well in a team environment.
  • Motivated, organized, adaptable and positive.
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organizational and task management skills
  • Detail oriented, efficient at multi-tasking and working individually.
  • Possess the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain a Government Security Clearance

While the employee may be permitted to work remotely from time to time, this role requires a high level of communication and coordination among various members of the finance and operations teams. As such, the employee will be required spend their time in the Marine Acoustics, Inc. office located in Middletown, RI.

Marine Scientist

Marine Acoustics, Inc.’s Environmental Programs division is seeking to hire an experienced Marine Scientist with environmental compliance, project management, and technical writing expertise. Knowledge of marine mammal or sea turtle ecology and animat modeling are advantages. Must be an organized and efficient multi-tasker with solid time management skills.

Environmental Programs is a tightknit group that includes acoustic modelers/analysts, ocean engineers, marine mammal bioacousticians, and biological oceanographers. These experts in their fields work together collaboratively to support diverse marine projects that principally relate to the environmental effects of underwater sound on the marine biome.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage projects including oversight of project budgets and timelines,
  • Prepare and edit technical/project reports,
  • Participate in client and federal regulator meetings,
  • Handle client correspondence,
  • Prepare proposals,
  • Derive marine animal population and movement parameters.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Biological Oceanography, Marine Biology, Marine Sciences, or another related discipline with relevant experience,
  • Knowledge of federal environmental compliance regulations and processes,
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship,
  • Project management experience (ideally 3 years),
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Additional Desired Requirements:

  • Experience or familiarity with animat modeling and related acoustic exposure analysis,
  • Data analysis experience,
  • GIS experience.

Sonar Systems Engineer

Job Brief
Marine Acoustics, Inc. is seeking an experienced engineer to conduct testing, evaluation, and assessment of Navy sonar systems under development for the purpose of Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW). The position will also include research and development opportunities. The engineer would participate in the test, evaluation, and assessment of cutting edge ASW technology across a broad range of Navy development efforts. This work will lead to additional opportunities for research and development for advanced ASW technology efforts by Program Executive Office Integrated Warfare Systems and professional growth within the company. 10 or more years of Navy ASW operational experience and/or equivalent work experience in an ASW related technical field desired. MS in mathematics, engineering, or physics academic background also desired, to include a strong Sonar signal processing base. Good facility with MATLAB and/or other analytical computer programming languages a must. On-site availability as well as the ability to travel and/or support at-sea testing as required. Must be able to hold a government security clearance.
