Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) / Information Technology (IT) Assistant

40 Hours Per Week

Marine Acoustics, Inc. (MAI) is an employee-owned scientific research and engineering company providing a diverse group of government and corporate clients with a broad spectrum of consulting and engineering services. Our areas of expertise include assisting clients in meeting environmental compliance requirements and in the development of naval undersea warfare systems.

MAI is seeking an ISSO and IT Assistant who will become part of a progressive, ambitious business with a robust benefit package. This position is an integral part of the company’s Corporate RI Office, reporting directly to the IT Manager/Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM). The position offers opportunities for professional development in a supportive working environment.

The successful candidate must have excellent organizational skills, be able to multitask and meet deadlines, be detail-oriented, and have industrial security experience. The employee must be attentive to detail and accuracy, continually look for ways to improve services and efficiency, possess a strong work ethic, and be committed to excellence.

Location: Middletown, RI
The nature of the job requires the candidate to reside within a one-hour drive. It is primarily an onsite position; however, remote work may be allowed occasionally.

Responsibilities

Candidate will assist the IT Manager and ISSM with:

  • RMF compliance for classified processing computers (AISs)
  • Weekly and monthly audits, patching, and vulnerability scans
  • Acting as a Data Transfer Agent (DTA) on classified systems
  • Preparing, coordinating, and conducting security education/training
  • Investigating, preparing, and submitting security violations and incident reports
  • Preparing for and participating in annual DCSA vulnerability assessments
  • Ensuring compliance with 32 CFR Part 117 (The NISPOM Rule)
  • Managing access and perimeter controls
  • Building out computers for new hires
  • Providing desktop support for all users
  • Supporting Active Directory, group policies, and network operations
  • Utilizing O365, Intune, Azure, and similar Microsoft cloud-based services
  • Familiarity with Microsoft OS server and desktop systems
  • Managing tape backups
  • Maintaining the security camera system
  • Operating Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems
  • Meeting Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) and NIST 800-171 standards

Additional Responsibilities (Including Assistant Facility Security Duties)

  • Indoctrinating newly hired cleared employees
  • Processing classified documents and assisting with electronic auditing
  • Handling requests for new clearances, downgrades/upgrades, conversions, reinstatements, terminations, and periodic reinvestigations
  • Serving as Communications Security (COMSEC) Material Custodian
  • Sending and receiving visitor requests via Defense Information System for Security (DISS)
  • Maintaining employee security files
  • Managing storage, inventories, document control, and transmission of classified materials
  • Overseeing facility security duties
  • Organizing, prioritizing, and appropriately handling time-sensitive information
  • Understanding and assisting employees with the company’s IT policies and procedures
  • Performing other relevant duties as needed
  • Maintaining confidentiality and discretion at all times

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of IT experience
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain or currently hold an active SECRET security clearance
  • Strong multitasking ability, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or relevant technical certifications (e.g., Security+, Network+)
  • Experience working for a government contractor
  • Working knowledge of 32 CFR Part 117 (The NISPOM Rule)
  • Familiarity with government systems such as DISS, NISS, NBIS, and eMASS

Sonar Systems Acoustic Analyst

Job Brief

Marine Acoustics, Inc. (MAI) is seeking an experienced STS, STG, AW and/or IUSS operator to support acoustic analysis efforts, at-sea/ashore test & evaluation events, to support at-sea/ashore testing, development and refinement for AI/ML projects supporting U.S. Navy aircraft and IUSS ASW systems. You would participate in working group environments to support the development of cutting-edge technology. MAI is a scientific and engineering company providing a diverse set of government, corporate and international clients with a broad spectrum of consulting and engineering services. MAI assists in strengthening technical knowledge of the ocean environment, improving undersea warfare technology and its applications, solving complex marine environmental problems, and sustainable development of ocean resources. Our areas of expertise include a full range of environmental compliance services, undersea warfare technology design, and test and evaluation services; all supported by an award-winning and internationally recognized research and development program. Responsibilities

  • Conduct acoustic analysis on various sensors with GOTS software
  • Support NAVSEA, NAVAIR and Warfare Centers on ASW and sonar related projects
  • Support the development of AI/ML projects for various ASW sensors

Required Qualifications

  • A former rated U.S. Navy STS, STG, AW and/or IUSS Operator
  • DOD Secret security clearance

Desired Qualifications

  • Navy NEC T42A (0501) Master Sonar Technician (Submarines) with IUSS experience
  • Navy NEC V44B (ST-0417) ASW Specialist with IUSS experience
  • Navy NEC G07A: P-8A/P-3C Acoustic Systems Specialist Aircrewman
  • Navy NEC 712B (0507) IUSS Master
  • TS//SCI eligible

Travel

  • Travel will constitute approximately 10% of the duties associated with this position
