MAI provides critical technical support to the Program Executive Officer Integrated Warfare Systems Office Director of Advanced Development (Undersea Warfare Systems) (PEO IWS 5A) in the development of undersea warfare technologies and systems. These technologies have included Antisubmarine Warfare (ASW) distributed autonomous sensors such as the Deep Water Active Distributed System (DWADS) and the Reliable Acoustics Path Vertical Line Array (RAP VLA), the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) ASW Increment 2 Mission Package (MP), Surface Ship Advanced Capability Builds (ACBs), Integrated Undersea Surveillance System (IUSS) Advanced Surveillance Builds (ASBs), and the Surface Ship ASW Synthetic Trainer (SAST).
MAI supports the planning and execution of advanced development at-sea testing and conducts analysis of the test measurements in support of sensor development. To accomplish these activities MAI conducts interactions with U.S. Navy Fleet activities to arrange for Fleet services, conducts performance modeling in support of test planning, and provides observers and test directors for test execution. MAI supported the development of the LCS ASW MP by leading PEO IWS5A test and evaluation efforts leading to the Advanced Development Model (ADM) Escort Mission Module of the MP. MAI continues to be the PEO IWS 5A lead for PMS420 ASW MP testing. For SAST development MAI provides critical expertise with the marine biosphere behavior and target strengths.
